Talking about dead people, a game (v0.1)

Agree on a name and age.

Everybody plays somebody in a conversation about the dead person. You don't have to say outright what your relationship with the dead person was.

Take turns talking about the dead person. Before you talk about them, think of a topic or statement and make a prediction about a draw from a deck of cards. Draw a card. If it's within the prediction, the statement is true or the topic applies. Otherwise, it definitely doesn't.

A turn can be very short. It needn't discuss the dead person directly. Others can interject with small details, ask or answer questions, or otherwise speak, during your turn.

Stop whenever.

Fear of content; Dead of Night scenario

One of my obstacles to play is my fear of creating content: what if I get it wrong? What if it's not good enough, there's not enough of it, it's the wrong sort? (It would be dreadful to have to  practice  that sort of thing. (I'm saying that with my tongue in my cheek; of course you have to practice!)) This only applies to GMing. Creating a character is usually easy. Since character creation and scenario creation are the same task under different headings, I know the fear is irrational.  I don't feel this fear when I'm making content on the fly, because there I'm simply responding to prompts or gameplay demands in play, without time to worry. So "no prep" games, and games where prep is both communal and a part of play, like Monsterhearts and It Was a Mutual Decision, don't stress me out. Nor would My Life with Master. I'm stressed out by games like Sorcerer, Wuthering Heights, and Bushido, where I have to make a bunch of stuff in advance. D...

Questing

Traditionally we score achievement in the form of treasure looted and enemies defeated. In this post I will argue that we should broaden our scoring to include player-determined quests, and present a procedure for acquiring and scoring quests. Why quests? Literary progenitors Money and victory in combat are great, tried-and-true objectives, worthy of scoring. Low-tier pulp fantasy heroes constantly pursue these ends -- Fafhrd and the Grey Mouser, Conan as a young man, Cugel when he isn't under duress, Satampra Zeiros. A pile of gold bullion, a noble goal! Money and victory in combat should always be scored. They're always useful. When you get money or win a fight, you're always winning at life in these stories. But any fan of pulp fiction will notice that money and victory in combat are far from the only objectives in pulp fantasy. Protagonists in the mid-tier and up have larger goals.
